Description

The past several years have highlighted how members of boards of health have great influence on Colorado’s public health agencies and population health. Leadership skills are essential for board members, whether they are providing policy direction, assuring adequate resources, engaging relevant stakeholders, or overseeing public health rules and laws.

This interactive 90-minute virtual session will share best-selling authors James Kouzes and Barry Posner’s Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. Participants will have the opportunity to complete the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI): Self assessment. Activities and small group discussion with other Colorado board members will then be used to apply the leadership practices to public health.

This voluntary training is limited to Colorado Boards of Health members. Developing leadership competency isn’t an issue of any one function, industry, or community. Following the session, participants will have access to the LPI digital resources. These resources will help participants apply their LPI feedback and the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership to daily roles and responsibilities.

By attending this session, participants will

  • Complete the LPI: Self assessment
  • Apply the five practices of exemplary leadership to a Board of Health context.
  • Connect with other Colorado Boards of Health members.
